Prof. Ismail Olaleke Fasanya

Prof Ismail Fasanya is an Associate Professor in Economics at the School of Economics and Finance, University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa. He is an alumnus of the African Economic Research Consortium (AERC), Nairobi, Kenya and a principal consultant at the African Review of Economics and Finance (AREF) Consult, Wits Business School, University of the Witwatersrand. He holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. He is a Certificated Member (with specialization in Econometrics) of the Institute of Certificated and Chartered Statisticians of South Africa, the statistical professional body in South Africa.

 

Prof Fasanya’s research interests lie at the intersection of macroeconomics and finance, with special interest in energy economics, financial spillovers and macroeconomic modelling and forecasting. Ismail has published extensively in energy economics and finance journals, including but not limited to Energy Policy, Energy, Energy Strategy Reviews, Resources Policy, Quarterly Review of Economics and Finance, Economic Systems, Economic Research, Energy Research Letters, OPEC Energy Review, North American Journal of Economics and Finance, and Renewable Energy Journal. He has also presented his research at leading energy and finance conferences around the globe, and currently has a number of high-quality research outputs on a range of topics under review in reputable economics and finance journals.

 

As a consultant to leading organizations, including the Department for International Development (DFID), African Economic Research Consortium (AERC), Center for Econometric and Allied Research, and AREF Consult, he has contributed to research and policy plans directed at improving welfare and business, such as Ogun State’s Experience of Improving Ease of Doing Business; Nigeria’s fiscal response to oil reforms; and the Bank of China-Chinese Investors’ Confidence Index for South Africa 2023.
